COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE ADULT BASIC EDUCATION (ABE-GED) PROGRAM
The ABE-GED Program offers teacher directed instructional services for
students interested in obtaining a Kansas High School Diploma (GED), improving
their workplace or technology skills, entering the workforce, retaining
or improving their employment, and/or preparing for entry into college
or technical school. GED Official Practice Testing is also available.
Ages/Grades: Persons 16 years of age or older who need to prepare
for the GED test, improve daily living skills, or improve career opportunities.
Times: Daytime and evening classes available.
Program Days: Monday through Thursday.
Location: Geary County Campus of Cloud County Community College
Fees: Classes are free, but there is a $25 materials and testing
fee. Financial assistance is available

AGENCY
The Cloud County Community College Early Childhood Resource and Referral
Agency has expanded services to 19 counties in North Central and North
Eastern Kansas, including opening an office on the Geary County Campus
of Cloud County Community College! The agency believes that all children
have the right to high quality early childhood experiences that prepare
them mentally, socially, physically, and emotionally to enter school,
ready to learn. We use four strategies to help us meet our mission:
1. Create and sustain a support and education system for early childhood
professionals.
2. Empower child care professionals to participate in quality initiatives.
3. Facilitate a system that engages parents to make good decisions for
the benefit of their family.
4. Collaborate with community partners to create neighborhoods where
children thrive.

Readiness
CLOUD
COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
The Geary County Campus of Cloud County Community College offers college-readiness
classes in each semester to those wishing to enhance their skills before
beginning a college curriculum. The fee for each class is based on residency
and number of credit hours. Please call the Geary County Campus at 238-8010
for tuition and registration information. Class days and times vary with
each semester. See the current course schedule for this semester's offerings.
Reading Comprehension
This class is designed to help students improve reading comprehension
skills including critical thinking for main ideas and detail, inferences,
summarizing, and patterns of organization. This is a 3 credit hour class.
Transitional English
This class will help students prepare for their college composition courses.
The content includes instruction in the writing process from free writing
and brainstorming to revision and editing with the development of sentence
structure, correctness, and variety. This is a 3 credit hour class.
Intermediate English
This class is designed for the student who needs instruction in effective
sentence and paragraph construction, short themes, and improvement of
writing skills. This is a 3 credit hour class.
Pre-Algebra
This class provides comprehensive coverage of basic computational skills
and their applications while introducing integers, fractions, decimals,
ratios, proportions and percents. This is a 3 credit hour class.
Elementary Algebra
This class is designed for students with little or no high school algebra.
Topics covered include number systems, solution and application of linear
equations, factoring and radicals. Prerequisite: Pre-algebra with a C
or better or appropriate ACT/COMPASS scores. This is a 3 credit hour class.
Intermediate Algebra
This course is designed for students who have only one year of high school
algebra or who are not otherwise ready for College Algebra. Among the
topics covered will be number systems, linear equations and inequalities,
lines, systems of linear equations and inequalities, polynomials, exponents,
rational expressions, and quadratic equations. Prerequisite: One year
of high school algebra with a C or better and appropriate ASSET/Compass
scores, Elementary Algebra with a C or better, or permission of department.
This is a 3 credit class.

COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAM
Cloud County Community College is committed to extending educational opportunities
into the communities in our service area. The Community Education Department
includes general education courses, online classes, personal enrichment
workshops and Allied Health Nurse Continuing Education classes, along
with Certified Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Social Services Designee,
Activity Director classes, Nursing Home In-Services, Emergency Medical
Technician and Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate.
Outreach courses are offered at 35 locations over a 12 county area. These
locations serve more than 2,000 students among the day, evening, and concurrent
high schools.

LEARNING IS FOR EVERYONE COMMUNITY EDUCATION PROGRAM
The Learning Is for Everyone (LIFE) community education program is dedicated
to providing educational opportunities for the people of Geary County,
Ft. Riley and the surrounding area. It is based on the premise that the
quality of life in any community is dependent upon the opportunity for
the personal development of its individual citizens. LIFE provides a means
for people to share their knowledge, exchange ideas and pursue their interests
through lifelong learning.

The Geary County Learning Center is now offering computer course for those

opportunity to complete an Associate Degree online. Courses taken at other
colleges and universities plus your military and work experience can be
applied toward degree completion requirements at Barton County Community
College. A minimum of 15 credit hours are required from Barton for degree
completion.

The aim of CLOUD OnLine is to assist you in achieving your educational,
career and personal goals. Online OPEN-ENROLLMENT classes are available
year round and offer you a flexible and convenient means of working toward
a degree or upgrading workplace skills while meeting your family and work
commitments. Our accredited Online degree program offers For-Credit coursework
leading to Associates degrees. General education courses applicable to
all associates degrees are available in addition to curriculum components
leading to completion of the Criminal Justice, Childcare and General Business

PROCTORING FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION
Distance education programs commonly require students to make their own
arrangements for a local proctor to manage and deliver their exams. The
Reference Department of the Dorothy Bramlage Public Library provides this
service to students in the Junction City/Ft. Riley area for both paper-based
and online testing. The Library has an established relationship with many
well-known distance programs including those offered by Kansas State and

LIBRARY
The LearningExpress Library provides an interactive online learning platform
of practice tests and tutorial course series designed to help patrons,
students and adult learners succeed on the academic or licensing tests
they must pass. Test takers will get immediate scoring, complete answer
explanations and an individualized analysis of their results. Included
in the practice test database are standardized tests for college entrance,
graduate school entrance, civil service, vocational career certification,
nursing, TOEFL, GED, teacher certification, advanced placement and real
estate licensing. The site also includes basic skills improvement and
job & career assistance. Accounts are fast and easy to set up and
provide free and unlimited access to all of the Learn-A-Test resources
from any computer that connects to the Internet.

Trying to improve your reading or math skills? Preparing to take the GED?
Learning to speak English? Need a little extra help with any or all of
these? The Dorothy Bramlage Public Library offers a service that matches
students with a volunteer tutor who will work with them on a one-on-one
basis to help them meet their learning goals. The pair will meet at selected
locations on a schedule that best meets both of their needs and availability.
Depending upon the student's goal, this could be a one-time meeting or
an ongoing activity. Regardless, it is an opportunity for students to
ask the questions they want to ask and learn the things they want to learn
in a safe and friendly environment.
