MOTHER GOOSE TIME FOR TOTS

Mother Goose Time is designed for two-year olds to foster their love of books and reading. Preschool concepts will be presented each week through stories, songs, crafts, and movement games. Class size is limited to 15 children.

Get up close and personal with farm, construction, utility, safety, public works and many other "things that go" at this annual event. Here kids can take the wheel, honk the horn, and get a feeling for what it's like to drive the big rigs.

AFTER HOURS @ THE LIBRARY
Teens take over when the patrons leave the Library. This past season, young adults tried their hand at the challenges from the popular television game show, Minute to Win It. They asked for more, so this fall we offer new challenges, new prizes, and more laughs. Later in the season, teens will make paper toys. These clever folded toys are currently the rage in Japan, being used to decorate lockers and offices. From rabbits to robots, teens will create a new friend or two. Advance registration is required for these young-adults-only events.

DIARY OF A COMBAT INFANTRYMAN
A native of rural Morris County who is now living in nearby Manhattan, author Jim Sharp documented his World War II experiences in a small diary that was given to him by the American Red Cross at Boston Harbor before he was shipped overseas. This diary became the impetus to write his book Diary of a Combat Infantryman, From the Bulge to Bavaria, the winner of the Kansas Council of Genealogical Societies Family History Award. Sharp will share his stories, sign copies of his books, and encourage others to share their experiences at this special Sunday afternoon event.
Presenter: Jim Sharp is a Bronze Star recipient who fought in the Battle of the Bulge and served as a guard at the Nuremberg war crime trials in 1945 and 1946.

BASKET MAKING
Students will learn the basic techniques of basket weaving by completing a project each time the class meets. This is also an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants to renew or hone their weaving skills. Class size is limited, so register early.
Instructor: Helen Haynes has considerable experience in creating baskets. She has been sharing her knowledge with students in the LIFE program for six years.
Ages/Grades: Ages 15 and older. Anyone under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

PROGRESS TOWARD A WORLD WITHOUT ALZHEIMER'S
Unchecked, Alzheimer's disease will continue to escalate and therefore as a nation we face a great challenge, but also a great opportunity. Now is the time of great hope. The research community is optimistic that within the next few years new drugs may delay the progression of this disease. WRITING YOUR FAMILY HISTORY
Charley Kempthorne, author of For All Time: A Complete Guide to Writing Your Family History and editor of LifeStory, a monthly magazine/newsletter about writing personal and family history, will offer a workshop on writing your own family story. This three hour workshop will be divided into three parts: how to remember your past; how to write the narratives of your life; and how to publish them for your family and friends.
Instructor: Charley Kempthorne is a native Kansan and lives with his wife on a farm near Manhattan. He started the first reminiscence writing workshop in the nation in Manhattan (KS) in 1976. He has an MFA from the Iowa Writers Workshop and has conducted hundreds of workshops across the country.
